Digital Storytelling Projects
Fourth Grade

Students will apply their knowledge of Nebraska pioneers to develop a digital storytelling project using still pictures taken at Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska.  Students will use skills in narrative writing, digital photography, iPhoto, iMovie, and possibly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, iTunes, and GarageBand to complete this project.


Kearney County History Museum
Fifth Grade

Digital storytelling in the fifth grade. Students prepared a group essay on a given topic, then enhanced their essay with digital photos from a local museums.  Students learn how to take digital photos, construct, edit, and narrate their digital essay through out this project.


Media-Casting 9-12 Grade

In this project, students strengthen their research and writing skills as well as develop a greater understanding of their hometown.
Project Outline: Students use the research notes outline handout to do historical research on major aspects of their town. In Minden, students focused on the city‚s court house and opera house. After gathering information, students organize their findings into a two page report that focuses on the building‚s history, present uses, and predicted future. Once their reports have been revised and edited, students create informative photo stories showcasing their research.

              Laptops, USB microphones, digital camera


Media-Casting 9-12 Grade

Video Casting:  Web learning Team
Students will strengthen their interviewing skills as well as research skills for this project.  The students will also develop and integrate video editing skills.  The students used Window Movie Maker to create and edit their videos, pictures and music about the historical mansions on Brown Avenue in Minden.


Project Minden ˆ DVD
Distribution and Promotion 10-12 Grade
Students will apply their knowledge of creating videos to develop an informational DVD about the city of Minden. Students will use skills in basic camera use and shot selection, Windows Movie Maker, PhotoStory, script writing, researching, narrating, and storyboarding.
